Charlottesville, VA (January 31, 2025)—Rebel Records is thrilled to announce the release of multi-SPBGMA Award-winning and IBMA-nominated group, The Kody Norris Show's latest single "Blue Ain’t the Word" available today on all digital and streaming platforms. Offering flawless harmonies and craftsmanship by The Kody Norris Show, “Blue Ain’t the Word” was premiered digitally by Cowboys & Indians and on SiriusXM’s Bluegrass Junction!
"Blue Ain't the Word" is a good traditional heartbreak number and marks fiddler Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris' debut as a songwriter for the band. This soulful song began as a melody and chorus that she just couldn't shake. It grew into a powerful song of lament when Mary Rachel took it to her husband and bandmate Kody Norris who shares co-writing credits. In addition to writing "Blue Ain't the Word," Mary Rachel sings lead for the first time and the pain in her voice is palpable. Adding harmony vocals are banjo player Josiah Tyree as well as bassist Charlie Lowman.
"You know those light naps you doze into when you're traveling? Well this song came to me while trying to fade into my slumber!" recalls Nalley-Norris. "We were headed to a show and all of a sudden this melody was just there. I had been humming the words, 'Blue, Blue, Blue, Ain't the Word' for a couple days but couldn't find a melody that fit quite right. I woke up, grabbed the first instrument I saw, wrote the chorus... and within a couple days Kody and I had finished the verses!" |
The Kody Norris Show has started 2025 with a bang. The group took home five awards at this year's 2025 SPBGMA Awards Show held in Nashville this past weekend, including Entertainer of the Year (for the fourth consecutive year), Vocal Group of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year (Kody Norris), Guitar Performer of the Year (Kody Norris) and Fiddle Performer of the Year (Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris). The group also officially debuted “Blue Ain’t the Word” to an enthusiatic crowd during the Convention's Friday Night Band Showcases.
"I’m absolutely thrilled! I’m so proud of our band and everything we have achieved over the past year," exclaims bandleader Kody Norris. "This is an incredible way to start 2025, and we’re deeply honored. We have so much love for bluegrass music, our fans, and everything SPBGMA represents!" |
